Access Keys

If you have difficulty in using a mouse or similar devices, you can use keyboard shortcuts. They enable you to navigate using only the keyboard. Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council follows the government access key system and information on how to use each of the keyboard shortcuts is available below:

If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or 6 on the PC, hold down ‘Alt’ and the relevant shortcut key and then press the ENTER key. 

If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 on the PC, hold down ‘Alt’ and the relevant shortcut key (eg 1 for the home page) at the same time. 

If you are using Netscape 6 or Mozilla Firefox on the PC, click anywhere on the page, then hold down ‘Alt’ and the relevant shortcut key at the same time.

If you are using Safari on the Mac, hold down ‘Ctrl’ and the relevant short cut key.

If you are using another browser that is not mentioned in the list above, please consult the manual or online help for guidance.

Adding your own Style Sheet and changing Colours and Fonts

You can change how web pages are displayed by making changes through your browser. Below are a few examples.

Text Size

You can increase or decrease the size of text in this website by using the 'decrease text size | increase text size' option at the top of the screen. Alternatively, you can change the text size in Mozilla, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Netscape under the view menu.

Changing Colours, Fonts & adding Style Sheets

Internet Explorer 6 includes an accessibility section (under: tools › internet options). Here you can add your own style sheet, or ignore colours, font styles and font sizes.

Opera 7 enables you to change the page style and the background colour and to add your own style sheet. Go to page style under tools › preferences.

Firefox 1, under tools › options, allows you to change the fonts and colours.

Netscape 7 includes the above options under Preferences › Appearance.

Safari, under Safari › Preferences › Advanced, gives you the option of adding your own style sheet. Under Preferences, there is also the option Appearance where you can change the font and its size.

Camino, under Camino › Preferences › General › Appearance, enables you to change the page, text and link colours, as well as the font.
